After Orientation: Own your HomeKeeper, Get Your Data in and More

Now that you're finished with Orientation, you still have some work to do to get everything you can out of HomeKeeper and Salesforce. Here's a list of to-do's that will get you and your program started on the right track.

1. Review and Repeat: Make HomeKeeper Second Nature

To know HomeKeeper is to use HomeKeeper. For a successful HomeKeeper implementation, you'll need to start entering data and using the system in order to remember what we went over during Orientation. To help:

2. Get Your Data In

Take a look at our New User's Quick Start Guide for the order that you should enter data into HomeKeeper.

3. Own Your HomeKeeper, Make it Yours

HomeKeeper is the system meant to make your life easier, so you're going to need to make sure it reflects your program. You can add or remove fields on any of the objects, (as long as they're not part of the National-Roll Up fields), move fields on the layout and create list views and reports that sort your information in ways that are important to you.

To do any of this, you would learn how to:

Salesforce has a free learning tool called Trailhead (check out HomeKeeper recommendations in our Trailmix, Salesforce Basics for HomeKeeper Users).

4. Be Part of Something Bigger: Can your program compare on the national level?

5. Be Part of Something Bigger: Can your program compare on the national level?

Along with being a tool to make your day to day program management easier, HomeKeeper is meant to help the entire affordable homeownership industry tell its story and discover which programs work best. To do this, programs all need to collect comparable information. We call these particular fields "National Roll-Up Fields." You can see which fields are required to get a Social Impact Report by using the "Review National Roll Up Data" links on:

  • Service Files
  • Properties
  • Funding Sources

You should never remove these fields from your layout because it will guarantee they'll be blank. If you're missing these fields historically, let HomeKeeper staff know so we can help you figure out the best way to get your data in completely.

5. Explore the HomeKeeper Support Forums

Subscribe to other forums to get updates. Some user favorites include Training Materials where we post recordings if you ever miss a webinar, and the Third Party Apps where you can learn about other great Salesforce compatible apps that other HomeKeeper users have discovered.

6. Ask Questions!

The best way to get in touch with us is to through the HomeKeeper Support Forums, where you can also find articles, videos and more! support@myhomekeeper.org

Always remember to log in, otherwise you won't be able to see much! HomeKeeper staff will check in with you one month after your orientation to see how you're doing and to ensure you're on track!
